Louis Johnson created works for the Dance Theatre of Harlem, AAADT, as well as choreographies for Broadway, including Purlie, a musical version of Ossie Davis’s Purlie Victorious, for which Johnson was nominated for a Tony award. Johnson also created the dances for the films Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970) and The Wiz (1978).
